The beginning of the Dioscuri

In his efforts to further upset the balance of Imbros, the trickster fate Apollo appeared to a southern mare named Caliente under the guise of Theseus. Because of her feelings for Theseus, Apollo was able to manipulate her into offering to have his foal. Right after the breeding, he revealed himself to her, and Caliente was devastated. She lived to carry the foal to term, but she was not the same. She barely survived til the colt, Aristaios, was a weanling. She died on the border of Chaos, and callous Apollo did not see fit to revive the mother of his son. Now Artemis has discovered Apollo's sneaky plan to tip the balance, but it's too little too late. To keep him in check, she too will have a foal. Apollo plans to have an army. Will they follow him? Where will it stop?

This is the beginning of the race of Dioscuri, the half-mortals. There is no going back.



Hey there folks, I guess you spotted our crazy little side-plot with the Fates here! If you don't like it, you can continue RPing like it didn't happen. This will affect the main plot later, but only a little bit. You can cover your ears and say "lalala" and you won't get too lost.

Let's just get a few very important things straight first:

• You cannot make a Dioscuri without admin permission
  
• Dioscuri are rare and very few people will have one
  
• You need to be active and have made at least 50 posts to apply for a Dioscuri
  

Here's what to expect with their differences from mortals:

from Apollo:

Abilities

• empathy: can feel the emotions of others
  
• surrounding is warmer
  
• rapid healing in self and others through touch
  
• smooth voice that makes others feel safe
  

Appearance

• golden eyes
  
• two or three black/dark markings, one of which a sunburst
  
• bright coat, flashy pattern
  
• difficult to look at directly for mortals
  

from Artemis:

Abilities

• empathy: can feel the emotions of others
  
• surrounding is cooler
  
• completely silent motion unless they want to be heard, no scent
  
• bite wounds created by them take longer to heal
  

Appearance

• silver eyes
  
• two or three white markings, one of which a crescent moon
  
• solid, darker coats
  
• outline appears unfocused to mortals, blends into shadows
  

We'll only be giving out a Dioscuri every so often when we feel that the stars are aligned and we have a good candidate. Don't feel bad if you don't get one, it will be VERY competitive.

Note: Your requests will be taken into consideration, but the ultimate decision regarding the names, appearance and distribution of Dioscuri rests with the staff. Complaints will result in stabbings.

Another note: Dioscuri are sterile and cannot breed. Also Apollo can only breed with mares, but since Artemis's abilities include fertility powers she can create from both genders.

FAQ:

-Can you apply if you already have a canon character?
Yes

-What will the markings be like?
Their locations will differ, but the markings themselves will be the same; Artemis' will always have the moon and Apollo's the sun. The "Desired appearance" section is where you would include your ideal version of the markings.

-How will the gender thing work?
Artemis can either mingle with one of your stallions or use a surrogate mare that is already pregnant. Apollo is a womanizer and will only deal with mares. ^^

-Can Dioscuri be drafts?
If the parent is a draft, the child will be as well. The Fates can change their appearance at will, so the Dioscuri tend to be somewhat malleable and are likely to adhere to their mortal parent's classification.

-Were you kidding about the stabbings?
Not even a little bit.

Yep, we're just very picky about giving them out. We don't want people to use these guys for a power trip or for something that doesn't make sense with the concept. So "getting it" is a very important part of the application process.

As for the previous questions: yes, they can be drafts and the "desired appearance" entry is mostly for coat colour preference but we will take any suggested markings into consideration.

Currently, there is only one active Dioscuri and one inactive. There are a couple in the works who are not yet born. If you're interested in one, you can apply by sending Spec a PM with your application!

We've had a ton of applications and only a few have been approved, which reinforces what was said above about us being very choosy. How they're portrayed can be just as important as the skill of the player.

- Are Dioscuri immortal?
Hard to say, as they're all pretty young. None of them have reached an age at which death might be natural. Perhaps they are simply longer-lived than regular equines. Maybe their lifespans are totally normal! Maybe they just don't die of natural causes. Maybe they can't be killed either. Time will tell!
